This morning I was doing some research on Diatomaceous Earth link here which inspired me to share some simple things that people can do to improve their digestion without spending a great deal of money. I am just in the beginning stages of learning more about Diatomaceous Earth. It is a product that is worth learning more about.

Steps to Improving Digestion and Bowel Function

A simple way of increasing digestive juices is to drink some Apple Cider Vinegar on an empty stomach diluted in water first thing in the morning. Bragg’s Apple Cider Vinegar has a really informative website [link here]. Diluted in water, ACV can be consumed during the day between meals. Water should be room temperature, never cold. Also, you might want to drink this through a straw, since like citrus juices, the long term effect can be hard on the teeth.

Proper Food Combining

This, in my opinion, is the most important step in improving sluggish digestion I   mentioned in an earlier post. The most important step in Proper Food Combining is to not eat fruit or any sweetened food after a meal containing protein or starch. This premise is explained well in the book Fit For Life. The basic idea is that sugars are easily assimilated on and empty stomach, but when eaten after a dense meal of protein and / or starch it just sits there and ferments. Hence, products like GASEX jump off the shelves. They mask symptoms and do not cure anything, contributing to more serious problems in the end

Not Eating 3 to 5 Hours Before Going to Bed

Just think about this one. Most people know it is a bad idea to eat right before going to bed. If  your last meal is later at night make it simple. If you are really hungry before going to sleep have a freshly squeezed juice. Waking up feeling lousy lets you know you something needs to change.

Chew More Than You Normally Would

Start with 5 to ten Chews per mouthful. Even chew or swish juice and water around in your mouth to stimulate enzyme production and just plain SLOW DOWN. Chewing stimulates the Parotid Gland which strengthens the Immune System. This is something that we all need to do! link here. You can increase the amount of chewing as you discover the benefits, but for many people chewing more than once or twice is a big step. No, I am not kidding.

Do Not Gulp Liquids With Meals….

Especially cold liquids, since the cold does not encourage the stomach to create more digestive enzymes. It can be compared to loosening up or encouraging the creation of synovial fluid in the joints. Ice is not a friend to better digestion or to joint mobility. Room temperature fluids are best and should not be drunk in large quantities before or right after meals. REMEMBER, THE ENTIRE POINT IS TO INCREASE THE STRENGTH OF YOUR DIGESTIVE FLUIDS. DRINKING RIGHT BEFORE, DURING OR AFTER A MEAL DIMINISHES ENZYME PRODUCTION. The capitals are not meant to be obnoxious, but to drive home what is not desired by beverage retailers and restaurants. They want us to BUY MORE  and not THINK or RETHINK our decisions before we consume our meals.

Simple and Free

Take three deep breaths before eating and breath throughout the meal. This is important for our over all health and sanity. The more adverse we are to doing this the more we need to do it.

Enjoying food, breathing, not eating under stress are all important steps. How we eat is more important than what we eat. This outlook will create healthier choices and better digestion.
