THE UNIQUE HEALING PROGRAM DONNA PESSIN: MY ONE BIGGEST REGRET

I regret I did not find The Unique Healing Program earlier. It would have made sense to me 10 or more years ago. Before that, I was married to the idea that my diet would heal me.  As time went on, that was not the case.  All the protocols I have followed have had elements of  The Unique Healing Program, but none put it together quite the way Donna Pessin has.

Here is part of a brief timeline of different protocols for health that I have embarked upon since the mid to late 1970’s:

Remember, it was the 1970’s. High protein low carb diet with animal glandular supplements, vitamins and digestive enzymes. NO REFINED SUGAR! Dr. Carlton Fredericks, Adele Davis, Dr. John Newbold, MD and, of course, Dr.Robert Atkins. I personally was a patient of Dr. Harold Rosenberg and Dr. Michael B. Schacter and his, still existing center, in  Suffern, N.Y. The Schacter Center for Complimentary Medicine in Suffern, N.Y.

Very early in the 1980’s I discovered Viktor Kulvinskus, his book Journey into the 21st Century, and the raw food diet. I was way to toxic and reactive for this regimen. The juicing, eating raw vegetables, sprouts and wheat grass was extremely cleansing for me. My lymphatic system, really all my organs went nuts. I had crazy sugar cravings. Candida overgrowth out of control. I had no idea what I was doing.

At this same time I was living on Central Park West in the 80’s. One of my neighbors was Joe Bologna [Lovers And Other Strangers] and Renee Taylor [The Nanny] comedy icons. One, or both of them, was on the Anne Wigmore-Hippocrates Health Institute Program. Their spacious apartment was a wheatgrass / rejuvalac factory. I remember going to their place and being in awe, and freaked out with what I saw. Is this what it would take to be healthy?

Early to mid 1980’s. The Macrobiotic Diet was my salvation at this time. It gave me some stability and I learned how to eat without having fruit, bread and dairy. I learned how to chew my food thoroughly. As time went on, I accompanied this diet with colonics. During this period my skin cleared. All my swollen lymph glands drastically improved. At the time, these results convinced me that a whole food diet heals. I know it helped me immensely, but diet alone did not heal my unhealthy digestion, constipation and sweet cravings. Diet was not enough to heal a very complex family health history. On top of all that throw in exposure to mold in my childhood home, growing up in a very polluted state [New Jersey], and so very, very much more.

Environmental pollutants. This is a universal issue today that is a, if not thee, largest physical contributor to sickness in this world. Something which is, to me, clearly undeniable. Unwillingness to see this is most often due to the human addiction to food, drugs, alcohol, lifestyle, and the fear of change.

Postscript 4/2014: There is more to this timeline, but due to the healing process on this program and life I never formally followed up on this post. I do write about some of it in other posts. Just to summarize:

Juices fasting, Juice Feasting [green juices], lots of Gallbladder flushes [David Jubb and Andreas Moritz], Ejuva and Rise and Shine Colon Cleanses, Health Force Parasite cleanses [a few three month intervals], colonics and more colonics, coffee enemas, Body Ecology Diet, a 5 month Ayurvedic protocol as an out patient at the Tree of Life Center in Patagonia, Az [Dr. George Cromack],and  other things that are along what I have just mentioned. Throw in a whole lot of emotional work. Long and incomplete list. Wow, I am tired from writing and reading it.

Second Postscript 4/2013: This post was the only one I wrote in November of 2013. I have more consistent energy now. There have been some rough patches,but consistent improvements. I began The UHP in 3/2014.
